The Pekoe Trail honored with the Best Wider World Tourism Project award

Ceylon Tea coming from the resplendent island nation, Sri Lanka is recognized for her well balanced tasting profile by tea connoisseurs all over the globe. It is always a great pleasure walking along lush green Sri Lankan tea gardens. Both tea and tourism are two of the major foreign income generators for Sri Lanka. The nation can achieve plenty of benefits, if both these industries are combined together. Tea-Tourism is a concept followed by tea growing countries to gain more benefits and income to growers and even for tea plantation workers. The Pekoe Trail is one of the companies which makes use of this golden opportunity though they are facilitators. As The Pekoe Trail had reported on their official Facebook page, the company is thrilled to announce that Sri Lanka was honored with the Best Wider World Tourism Project award in London at the prestigious British Guild of Travel Writers International Awards 2023.

About The Pekoe Trail

This is Sri Lanka’s first long-distance hiking trail walk along the Tea Country in the Central Highlands. It is a 300+km, long-distance walking. As the first of hopefully many long – distance walking trails in Sri Lanka, it is made up of 22 stages, which can be completed in short sections, or as part of a multi-day experience taking visitors through an eclectic mix of hilltowns, tea plantations, remote villages, sanctuaries, viewpoints, forests, and cultural and historical locations.

The interconnecting trail demonstrates the island’s diversity, encourages sustainable travel and brings economic opportunity to rural communities in order to promote a more holistic traveler experience that embraces adventure, nature, wellness, and sustainability.
