Coca Cola’s Fuze Tea Moves to Sustainable Carton Packs

Tea is the most consumed beverage in the world. But still continuous innovation and addressing convenience factor are key drivers in modern day marketing. As Tea & Coffee Trade Journal had reported, Fuze Tea’s carton packs in the Dutch market are now being manufactured more sustainably using 100% ethically sourced materials, which are 95% linked to plant-based raw materials. Fuze Tea owned by Coca Cola is the first brand in the iced tea segment to move in to more sustainable carton packs by using SIG’s carton packs with the innovative SIGNATURE packaging material.

Ninety five percent of this carton pack is linked to plant-based raw materials like paperboard manufactured with renewable and sustainably sourced wood and polymers linked to wood-based tall oil, a residue extracted from wood in the paper making process. Other than that, all three main materials are certified as 100% ethically sourced. The paperboard is FSCTM-certified, the polymers certified via an independently certified mass balance system and the aluminium certified by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). The closure is linked to plant-based polymers, too. An independent lifecycle assessment demonstrates that SIGNATURE minimizes the carbon footprint of carton packs.

Coca-Cola European Partners has the aim of becoming climate-neutral across the entire value chain by the year 2040. Over the past decade, Coca-Cola European Partners has already minimized company’s CO2 emissions by 30% through initiatives in the areas of transport, cooling, production and packaging. For the decade, the target is to minimize emissions by another 30%.

Joris Hendriks, director, commercial development at Coca-Cola European Partners Netherlands, commented: “Sustainability is at the heart of Fuze Tea. Of course, this applies not only to the ingredients of Fuze Tea itself, by only purchasing Rainforest Alliance certified tea and by using the method of preparing infused tea, but also when looking at the packaging. Peet’s Coffee Introduces New Iced Teas and Cold Brews for Summer 2020

Even though USA is a coffee dominating market, tea is slowly gaining in popularity thanks to health and wellness trend specially among younger generation. Iced tea is the main form of tea consumption in the US. By the meantime, California based Peet’s Coffee has announced their new Summer 2020 beverage lineup that includes the unveiling of six iced tea beverages as well as two limited edition cold brew beverages.

The brand’s new iced tea lineup is as follows:

  • Strawberry Lemon Black Tea: Mighty Leaf Summer Solstice black tea, hand-shaken with lemonade, sweet strawberry puree, ice and real strawberry slices.

Peet’s limited edition cold brews, made with Peet’s Baridi Cold Brew, fruit purée, sweetened condensed milk, and splash of half & half. The cold brews are available for a limited time from 24 June to 1 September 2020:

  • Strawberry Vanilla Cold Brew: Baridi Cold Brew combined with a hint of strawberry purée, vanilla syrup, condensed milk and a float of half & half and poured over ice.
  • Citrus Cremesicle Cold Brew: Crafted with Yuzu citrus purée, layered with condensed milk and Baridi Cold Brew and vanilla syrup, topped with a creamy float of half & half.

Cannabis-Infused Iced Teas to Refresh North America

Even though North America is dominated by coffee, tea is emerging thanks to health and wellness trend specially among younger generation. More than 75% of North American tea market is for Ready-to-Drink (RTD) iced tea. With this background Canada based beverage manufacturer BevCanna Enterprises has lined up the launch of a new range of cannabis-infused iced teas as per the report of FOODBEV MEDIA. Cannabis is an illegal drug in many nations all around the world. Anything with limits is certainly beneficial to the body. For instance, 6 cups of tea per days (Considering caffeine and other alkaloids) is the recommendation for a healthy individual. But I must tell you that the limit for cannabis has to be very low. As Emma Andrews, chief commercialization officer at BevCanna mentioned “Iced tea was among the top five performing concepts, among 25 product concepts tested,”

Emma added further “We are also choosing to launch this brand with a balanced THC and CBD profile (1:1 ratio), in order to provide consumers with a mild, yet effective cannabis experience.”

Grüv Beverages is going to be one of the first brands launched by BevCanna in the US. In Canada, the drinks will go on sale following the legalization of cannabis-infused products in October 2019.

BevCanna will commercialize a 355ml ready-to-drink beverage, with 5mg of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and 5mg of Cannabidiol (CBD) infused in an alkaline spring water base.

Iced Tea Popsicles to Beat The Heat

Tea has become the most popular beverage in the world after water due to so many special features of this wonderful, refreshing, calming, stimulating and healthy beverage. USA is a Coffee dominating market. But in the recent past, tea has started to emerge thanks to health and wellness trend specially among younger generation. USA tea lovers generally prefer their tea in cold form. Now it’s late summer / early autumn for North America and Europe. So this is the ideal time for them to enjoy more and more iced tea. But tea’s application goes beyond a beverage. Have you ever thought of tea Popsicles ? That would be an ideal way of refreshment during this warm period.

All you need to do is to fetch a Popsicle mold and make Ice Pops with your favorite iced tea recipe. I would like to suggest below iced tea lemonade recipe with some modifications appeared on Sri Lanka Tea Board promotion website.

Ingredients for Iced Tea Lemonade

  • 1L of water
  • 6 tbsp of Ceylon black tea leaves
  • 3 cups of cold water
  • ¾ cup of sugar made into a syrup with ¾ of cup water (Better if you can use natural honey)
  • 1 cup of fresh lemon juice (Or you can use either orange or lime based on preference.

Preparation:

Bring the litre of water to a boil, remove from heat and add tea leaves. Keep for 3-5 minutes. Stir and strain into a container, add the cold water and the cooled sugar syrup (Or honey). Pour in the lemon juice and mix well. Pour over ice cubes. Finally you can put the liquid in to Popsicle mold.

Also It’s better if you can add natural fruit pieces like strawberry, peach etc to enhance the taste and appearance.

Or else you can enjoy ice Pops made with The Republic of Tea’s Ginger Peach Iced Tea Popsicles recipe.

By the way, on 10th of June USA tea enthusiasts are going to celebrate National Iced Tea Day with their loving ones amid this critical time period when The US is still battling against COVID 19 pandemic.

As National Iced Tea Day had reported, Approximately 85% of the tea consumed in the US is iced Tea. Ready-to-Drink iced tea has spiked in the recent past. During First World War, USA citizens were purchasing tall borosilicate glasses, that eventually became well known as iced-tea glasses, long spoons ideal for stirring sugar into iced tea glasses and lemon forks. Prohibition of beer, wine and hard liquor which ran from 1920 to 1933, helped boost the popularity of iced tea as Americans looked at alternatives to those during this period. Sometimes iced tea is prepared by a particularly long steeping of tea leaves at a lower temperature (one hour in the sun versus five minutes at 80-100 °C). Some people call this sun tea. In addition, sometimes it is also left to stand overnight in the refrigerator.
