No 1 Ceylon Tea Exporter Pledges Rs. 100 million (USD 0.5 M) in Sri Lanka’s Battle Against COVID-19
In a situation when Sri Lanka is fighting against COVID 19 Virus, No 1 Ceylon Tea exporter (In volume), Akbar Brothers has donated Rs. 100 million through a number of relief measures to ensure that its employees and the local community are sustained and supported during this difficult time: Reported by Business News.
As President’s Media Unit had reported, With direct deposits and donations from organizations and individual donors the COVID – 19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund’s balance surpasses Rs. 242 million as at 31 Mar 2020. His Excellency The President Gotabaya Rajapaksa established this Fund on March 23 with RS 100 M.
The Fund’s balance surpassed Rs. 242 million with the contributions of Rs.50 million by Akbar Brothers Pvt Ltd, Rs.10 million by Financial Management Accounts Department of the People’s Bank, Rs.3 million by People’s Bank Pensioners Association, Rs 5 million each by People’s Leasing, Litro Gas Lanka Limited, Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation and Bank of Ceylon, Rs 8 million by The National Savings Bank.
In Akbar’s continued efforts to serve the people of Sri Lanka, the company affirmed its involvement in the construction of the New Health Centre in Chilaw.
Additionally an emergency response entailing food supplies, medical equipment and other replenishments has been organised for all is employees.
Relief packages including dry rations have been distributed among the workers and the local community including temples, churches, mosques and those in need around the vicinity.
The Board of Directors of Akbar Brothers said it was deeply grateful and proud of the unwavering cooperation of its staff and management for adhering to safety measures and hygiene protocol and that it was fully committed to its civic duty as a responsible corporate citizen of this country.
