Ceylon Tea Highlighted @ “World Food Moscow 2021”

Ceylon Tea coming from the resplendent island nation, Sri Lanka is recognized for her well balanced tasting profile by tea connoisseurs all over the globe. Sri Lanka Tea Board is the government body which is responsible for international promotion of Pure Ceylon Tea. As Sri Lanka Tea Board had reported, Tea Promotion Unit (TPU) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Tea Board attended at the 30th Jubilee exhibition of food products “World Food Moscow 2021”, that took place at the IEC “Crocus Expo” from 21st to 24th September 2021. Together with the Embassy, Two reputed Ceylon tea exporters were also participated the exhibition.

The Ceylon Tea stall attracted a large number of visitors who were eager to learn more about Pure Ceylon Tea. The stall was the only stall with hot tea cupping featuring Ceylon Tea from the seven unique regions in Sri Lanka. All visitors were served a freshly brewed cup of Ceylon tea by a Russian tea demonstrator dressed in traditional Sri Lankan Osari.

The Ceylon tea stall was officially opened by Chargé d’ Affaires, a.i Ruvini Munidasa, of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, along with Third Secretary (Tea Promotion) Mr. Tishan de Silva and Sri Lankan embassy staff.

“World Food Moscow” is the biggest autumn food exhibition in Russia with a vast range of affordable and high-quality food products. This year, 600+ Russian and foreign food and beverage companies demonstrated their best new products to a massive audience of food market specialists.

Over 110 companies representing manufacturers and suppliers from 30 foreign countries exhibited at the “World Food Moscow 2021” for the first time, and around 15 countries arranged national pavilions including Sri Lanka. The domestic exposition was presented by companies from 59 regions of Russia.

a. According to a claim made by the International Standard Organization (ISO), Ceylon tea is the Cleanest Tea origin in the world considering pesticide residues. Sri Lankan authorities have imposed strict regulations on agro-chemical usage in order to meet Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) of European Union (EU) and Japan.

c. Even though Sri Lanka is a small Island which is also know as “The Pearl of Indian Ocean”, “Asia’s Sweet Heart” and “The Wonder of Asia”, the diversity (Regional difference) of Ceylon Tea is quite amazing. One would enjoy a light, fragrant Nuwara-Eliya Tea from the highest mountain peak with Citrus notes while another is enjoying a strong, full bodied Ruhuna Tea from Ruhuna region situated in the down south. d. Sensory-wise, Ceylon Tea has got a well-balanced taste with ideal strength, flavor and aroma for a perfect cup of tea.


e. Although hand shears and mechanical tea harvesters are used pluck at very few tea fields, Sri Lankan tea is plucked exclusively by human hand.
