One Cup, A Thousand Stories: BBC Studios TV Series on Tea !

Tea was first discovered in China way back in 2732 B.C by the Emperor Shen Nong. Eventually this wonderful refreshing, stimulating, calming and healthy beverage became the most loved beverage after water. So arguably, tea is the greatest gift from China to the World !. Diversity of tea in China is so huge. You can find sizes ranging from big Taiping Houkui to fine Matcha tea powder while tea types are ranging from Dark Pu-Erh to very mellow Silver Needle. Even a life time is insufficient to discover all the tea traditions in this massive nation. But in the meantime, BBC Studios has the privilege of winning its first ever fully-funded production commission in China which a brand new landmark factual series for Migu, China Mobile’s only digital content subsidiary, telling the wonderful tale of tea and her impact on China and other civilizations around the globe.

As BBC had reported, One Cup, A Thousand Stories will look at tea in an angle that never attempted before, travelling across the pretty and varied landscapes of China to explore her wonderful teas, the locals who have created a life around tea and the culture it has developed. It will reveal how tea has profoundly influenced Chinese lifestyles and culture, including food and concepts of medicine and health and how tea sits at the core of Chinese traditions, attitudes, friendships and family ties, bringing different generations together and even the whole nation. This unique series will also seek to tell the story of tea’s influence on other countries and China’s role in the global tea culture.

The 6 x 50 minutes series has already been developed and will be produced by BBC Studios’ in Scotland and will be distributed internationally by BBC Studios.
